Nacho Average Fries: OC’s Best Loaded Spuds
America’s favorite vegetable. Fried. Topped with cheese, sauce and meat. ‘MURICA!
For me, there’s nothing better than a hearty plate of fried potatoes, topped with gooey cheese, zesty sauce and a bunch of meat. Here are my three favorite spots to get loaded fries in OC.
3. Wagyu Beef Cheek Poutine at Haven Gastropub
Haven Gastropub is redefining this classic Canadian dish by using rich, fatty wagyu beef cheeks in its red wine-rosemary gravy, which is then loaded on a bed of Haven’s seasoned “pommes frites.”
Haven tops off the dish with melted cheddar cheese curds, with the poutine appearing more like a queso fundido. You will not be disappointed.
Haven Gastropub is at 190 S. Glassell St. in Orange. (714) 221-0680
2. Buffalo Chicken Fries at Yellow Basket in Santa Ana
This Yellow Basket diner, nestled in an industrial area of Santa Ana, has a loaded fry dish you can’t get at other locations of this mini-chain. The buffalo chicken fries are a must-have. When you get your plate, you are greeted by a bed of fries covered in buffalo chicken, ranch, onions, and cheddar cheese. C’mon, why is this not a thing at every restaurant.
Yellow Basket is at 2860 S. Main St. in Santa Ana. (714) 545-8219
1. Nacho Fries at Smoqued
Are you a barbecue lover? Listen up. Smoqued BBQ has some incredible nacho fries. Just like in Newport Beach, it’s difficult to find parking over in Old Towne Orange, but you’re hungry and you want some potato in your belly. Pulled pork, barbeque sauce, cheese sauce, jalapenos, cheese, onions, and chives meet a bed of French fries. I’m getting a food coma just thinking about it. This is the ideal meal if you’re feeling the munchies.
Smoqued BBQ is at 128 N. Glassell St. in Orange. (714) 633-7427
