Kochee Kabob Closing In Irvine
Students support business owner, as The Irvine Company declines to renew his lease
December 31 will mark the last day of business for Kochee Kabob House in Irvine.
According to Brendan Yu of The New University, The Irvine Company declined to renew owner AJ Satori’s lease. Kochee Kabob House, located in the University Center, has been in business at the center since 2004.
Satori told Yu that the The Irvine Company sent him a letter last week stating that it decided not to renew his lease. No reason was given by the landlord, Satori said. The Irvine Company declined to comment to the New University.
Over the past few years, the University Center has evolved as a mecca for popular, but corporate-run eateries, like Mendocino Farms, Blaze Pizza and Chipotle.
This is while locally run, independent restaurants have been closing at the center. In 2013, Britta’s Cafe and Asia Noodle Cafe were closed and replaced by Tender Greens and Yushoken Izakaya & Ramen, respectively.
Students are rallying in support of Kochee Kabob through a Facebook group that can be accessed here.
