- A fight allegedly broke out between two teen girls at the Picture Show Dollar Movie Theater in the MainPlace mall in Santa Ana.
- A trashcan was thrown and it is believed that someone yelled “somebody’s got an AK-47!” Shoppers panicked.
- Some mall patrons started fleeing through exits of MainPlace, as authorities were called at 8:15 P.M. Others hid throughout the mall. At the time, it was believed there was an active shooter.
- Upon arrival, authorities found that there were no shots fired. Police did not find weapons on any suspects and there are no victims. The two teen girls were detained and the mall remained opened.
Friday night, shoppers were rushing toward the exits of the MainPlace mall in Santa Ana, as authorities believed there was an active shooter in the mall. But these reports turned out to be false.
According to Anthony Bertagna of Santa Ana Police, two teen girls got into a fight while standing in line to see the movie “Goosebumps,” and a trashcan was thrown. There were no showings of Star Wars at this movie theater on this day. The two teen girls were detained.
Someone “threw a trash can and somebody yelled, “Somebody’s got an AK-47!” Bertagna said.
According to the Orange County Register, authorities were called at 8:15 p.m. about possible shots fired at the mall. This was after an alleged fight at the mall’s movie theater. But officers found no suspects with a weapon. Witnesses heard someone yelling “shots!” which caused shoppers to evacuate and take cover. There are no reported victims.
