Orange County’s Best Ice Cream: Our Top 3 Picks
Next time you’re craving ice cream, skip Baskin-Robbins and try one of these spots instead!
3. Afters Ice Cream
OC natives Andy Nguyen and Scott Nghiem came up with the wild idea of stuffing a glazed donut with ice cream.
Little did they know, that idea would propel them as the most prominent figures in the Orange County food scene.
Nguyen and Nghiem’s @trytitordiet is a prominent display of “food porn” on Instagram. Since then, they’ve also gone into burger business by partnering with GD Bro Truck and into the noodle game with Nudo Nudo.
But as the hype has died down and as Afters has opened a few more locations, a good ol’ Milky Bun still does the job of satisfying your sweet tooth.
It’s Afters’ unique ice cream flavors that bring it to the top. Where else can you find cookie butter, Vietnamese coffee or jasmine milk tea-flavored ice cream?
Afters is opening a new shop at Diamond Jamboree in Irvine later this year. Let the madness begin.
Afters Ice Cream has locations in Fountain Valley, Tustin, Long Beach, Chino Hills and is coming soon to Irvine. instagram.com/aftersicecream
2. Andrew’s Ice Cream and Dessert
Andrew’s Ice Cream is a bit hidden in a massive shopping center on the corner of Tustin and Katella in Orange. It’s run by Greg Ramsey, a former healthcare administrator who loves all things dessert.
Andrew’s Blueberry Banana Cheesecake ice cream is made with real cheesecake, fresh blueberries and bananas. Like 90 percent of the ice cream here, it’s made in-store.
And boy, does Andrew’s make some spectacularly rich and creamy ice cream.
Andrew’s Ice Cream and Dessert is located at 1549 E Katella Ave, Unit C in Orange. (714) 829-9350
1. Hans’ Homemade Ice Cream
This is a no-brainer. No one else in Orange County does ice cream quite like Hans. Like the name implies, Hans’ makes all of its ice cream in-store.
One of Hans’ finest flavors is its Nutella Krunch ice cream, which tastes just like frozen Nutella hazelnut spread with bits of Kit Kat chocolate bars.
But you might not even get a chance to try Nutella Krunch. The geniuses at this ice cream shop are always coming up with new flavors each week. You never know what you’ll get. But whatever it is, it’ll well be worth the calories.
Hans’ Homemade Ice Cream has locations in Santa Ana, Anaheim and is coming soon to Downtown LA. hanshomemade.com
