Baseball season is ramping up again. Here’s what you need to know about your hometown Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

When does baseball season start up again?

This year’s 2016 MLB season officially starts on Sunday, April 3. The first three games will be the New York Mets vs. the Kansas City Royals, the Toronto Blue Jays vs. the Tampa Bay Rays and the St. Louis Cardinals vs. Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Angels will play their first official game of the season at Angel Stadium on Monday, April 4, against the Chicago Cubs. Garrett Richards will be the starting pitcher for the game against Jake Arrieta.

The Angels will be playing against the Cubs on Sunday, April 3, however that will still be considered a Spring Training game.

Will the Angels actually be good this year?

It’s really up in the air.

The Angels had a great showing in Spring Training this year, tied for winning the most games (17-8) in the American League. But that’s Spring Training, so it doesn’t really count.

The Angels missed the playoffs by a few games last season and were swept in the playoffs in 2014. There are holes and uncertainties in the team’s lineup. The team lacks a quality left field option, opting to go with a platoon of Craig Gentry and Daniel Nava.

The team’s pitching rotation also has question marks. Jered Weaver is no longer in his prime. C.J. Wilson and Tyler Skaggs are coming off of surgery. Matt Shoemaker had a 7.65 ERA during Spring Training. That’s not very good.

The reality is the Angels play in a tough division, the American League West. The Houston Astros are favorites to win the division. The Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners also have strong lineups. Most MLB analysts are placing the Angels and the Oakland Athletics to be last in the division.

Who are the best players on the team?

Mike Trout

Trout is the best player in baseball, period. MLB Network ranked Trout as the #1 player in all of MLB. He’s projected to have another awesome season, which will be exciting to watch.

Some of the Angels’ players to watch this year will also be Kole Calhoun, Garrett Richards, Andrew Heaney and Huston Street.

The Angels also picked up shortstop Andrelton Simmons in a trade this offseason. Simmons has multiple Gold Glove Awards and is a defensive wizard. We’ll most likely get to see many awesome highlights like these.

Who are the highest paid players on the team?

Albert Pujols is the highest paid player on the team, making $25 million this season. C.J. Wilson and Jered Weaver are both in the final year of their contracts and are making $20 million each.
