20-Year-Old Suspected Of DUI Drives Wrong Way On 55 Freeway, Crashes Into Another Driver
This happened early Sunday morning on the 55 Freeway.
A 20-year-old Orange resident was arrested early Sunday morning after driving the wrong way on the 55 freeway and crashing head on with another driver, according to The Orange County Register.
Shortly before 1:50 a.m., California Highway Patrol officers found Joseph Almand speeding northbound in a black 2003 Mercedes C240 in the southbound lanes of the 55 freeway near Baker Street in Costa Mesa.
According to the Register, Almand sped away from officers for more than 10 miles up the freeway until he collided head on into a 21-year-old Seal Beach man driving a black 2015 BMW M4 just north of West Lincoln Avenue.
Firefighters responded and paramedics took both men to UCI Medical Center in Orange with survivable injuries.
Almand was later arrested on suspicion of driving drunk and was booked into Orange County jail, where he was held in lieu of $100,000 bail. He was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, according to jail records.
